Call to Worship: God Gathers His Church

+ O God Beyond All Praising

Scripture Reading Isaiah 60:1-5

Arise, shine, for your light has come,
    and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.
For behold, darkness shall cover the earth,
and thick darkness the peoples;
but the Lord will arise upon you,
    and his glory will be seen upon you.
And nations shall come to your light,
    and kings to the brightness of your rising.
Lift up your eyes all around, and see;
    they all gather together, they come to you;
your sons shall come from afar,
    and your daughters shall be carried on the hip.
Then you shall see and be radiant;
    your heart shall thrill and exult.

Lectura – Isaias 60:1-5

¡Levántate y resplandece,
que tu luz ha llegado!
    ¡La gloria del Señor brilla sobre ti!
Mira, las tinieblas cubren la tierra,
    y una densa oscuridad se cierne sobre los pueblos.
Pero la aurora del Señor brillará sobre ti;
    ¡sobre ti se manifestará su gloria!
Las naciones serán guiadas por tu luz,
    y los reyes, por tu amanecer esplendoroso.
Alza los ojos, mira a tu alrededor:
    todos se reúnen y acuden a ti.
Tus hijos llegan desde lejos;
    a tus hijas las traen en brazos.
Verás esto y te pondrás radiante de alegría;
    vibrará tu corazón y se henchirá de gozo.

Lord’s Prayer / El Padre Nuestro

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.

Your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For yours is the kingdom
and the power and the glory forever.
Amen

Padre nuestro que estás en el cielo,
santificado sea tu nombre.
mas líbranos del mal;
Amen.

Confession of Sins: God Forgives His People

+ Mi Vida Es Cristo / All I Have is Christ

Minister: Let us humble ourselves and confess our sins. Let everyone who is godly offer prayer to the Lord while he may be found.

C: For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long.
For day and night your hand was heavy upon me;
 my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer. Selah I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. (Psalm 32)

Selah Pero te confesé mi pecado, y no te oculté mi maldad. Me dije: «Voy a confesar mis transgresiones al Señor», y tú perdonaste mi maldad y mi pecado. (Salmo 32)

Silent prayer / Orar en silencio

Assurance of Pardon / Seguridad de Perdón –

M: You who turned from your sins and trust the Savior, the blood of Jesus cleanses you from all sins, and the Spirit of Christ consecrates us to God.

Consecration: God Equips His Church

Scripture Reading and Prayer – Genesis 1 (selected)

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day . . . And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years, and let them be lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth.” And it was so. And God made the two great lights—the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night—and the stars. And God set them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening and there was morning, the fourth day.

Collect. God of all mercy, who knows that we justly deserve to be punished for our evil deeds; In your mercy, grant that we may be relieved by the comfort of your grace; Through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who lives and rules with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen (BCP 2011)

Sermon – Re:Lent – Darkness & Light (Ephesians 5:7-16)

Do not become partners with [the sons of disobedience]; for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says, “Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”

Confession of Faith: God Saves His Church

Congregation Reads – The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:
Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into death;
The third day He arose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty,
whence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.
Amen

Meditation / Meditacion – 1 Corinthians 10 (selected)

Words of Institution  / Palabras de Institución – 1 Cor. 11:23-26

For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

Prayers of Thanksgiving for the Body and Blood of Christ

Minister: O merciful Lord, we do not presume to come to your Table, trusting in our own righteousness, but in your manifold and great mercies. We are not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under your Table. But you are merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness: Grant us therefore, gracious Lord, so to eat the flesh of your beloved Son Jesus Christ, and to drink his blood, that our sinful bodies may be made clean by his Body, and our souls washed through his most precious Blood, and that we may evermore dwell in him, and he in us. Amen. (Prayer of Humble Access / adapted by JMT)
