Call to Worship: God Gathers His Church

Ascribe to the Lord, O heavenly beings,
    ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
Ascribe to the Lordthe glory due his name;
    worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness.
The voice of the Lord is over the waters;
    the God of glory thunders,
    the Lord, over many waters.
The voice of the Lord is powerful;
    the voice of the Lord is full of majesty.
The voice of the Lord flashes forth flames of fire.

The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness;
    the Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.
    and in his temple all cry, “Glory!”
The Lord sits enthroned over the flood;
    the Lord sits enthroned as king forever.
May the Lord give strength to his people!
    May the Lord bless his people with peace! (Psalm 29)

Tributen al Señor, seres celestiales,
    tributen al Señorla gloria y el poder.
Tributen al Señorla gloria que merece su nombre;
    póstrense ante el Señoren su santuario majestuoso.
La voz del Señor está sobre las aguas;
    resuena el trueno del Dios de la gloria;
    el Señor está sobre las aguas impetuosas.
La voz del Señor resuena potente;
    la voz del Señor resuena majestuosa.
La voz del Señor lanza ráfagas de fuego;
    la voz del Señor sacude al desierto;
    el Señor sacude al desierto de Cades.
    en su templo todos gritan: «¡Gloria!»
El Señor tiene su trono sobre las lluvias;
    el Señor reina por siempre.
El Señor fortalece a su pueblo;
    el Señor bendice a su pueblo con la paz. (Salmo 29)

Lord’s Prayer / El Padre Nuestro

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.

Your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For yours is the kingdom
and the power and the glory forever.
Amen

Padre nuestro que estás en el cielo,
santificado sea tu nombre.
mas líbranos del mal;
Amen.

Confession of Sins | God Forgives His People

Minister: Brothers and sisters, let us humbly confess our sins to God.

Ministro:  Hermano y hermanas, que confesemos nuestros pecados a Dios.

C:  I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones that you have broken rejoice. Hide your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit. (Ps. 51)

C:    Yo reconozco mis transgresiones; siempre tengo presente mi pecado. (Sal. 51)

Consecration God Equips His Church

Scripture Reading — Isaiah 43 (selected)

Now thus says the Lord,
he who created you, O Jacob,
    he who formed you, O Israel:
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
    I have called you by name, you are mine.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
    and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you;
when you walk through fire you shall not be burned,
    and the flame shall not consume you.
For I am the Lord your God,
    the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.
Because you are precious in my eyes,
    and honored, and I love you,
I give men in return for you,
    peoples in exchange for your life.
Fear not, for I am with you;
    I will bring your offspring from the east,
    and from the west I will gather you.
I will say to the north, Give up,
    and to the south, Do not withhold;
bring my sons from afar
    and my daughters from the end of the earth,
everyone who is called by my name,
    whom I created for my glory,
    whom I formed and made.”
I am the Lord, your Holy One,
the Creator of Israel, your King.”
Thus says the Lord,
who makes a way in the sea,
a path in the mighty waters:
Remember not the former things,
nor consider the things of old.
Behold, I am doing a new thing;
now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness
and rivers in the desert,
for I give water in the wilderness,
rivers in the desert,
to give drink to my chosen people,
    the people whom I formed for myself
that they might declare my praise.
Yet you have burdened me with your sins;
    you have wearied me with your iniquities.
But I, I am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake,
    and I will not remember your sins.

Collect. O Lord, keep your household the Church in your steadfast faith and love, that through your grace we may proclaim your truth with boldness, and minister your justice with compassion; for the sake of our Savior Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen

Message: Luke 3

In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee…the word of God came to John the son of Zechariah in the wilderness. And he went into all the region around the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet,

“The voice of one crying in the wilderness:
‘Prepare the way of the Lord,
    make his paths straight.
Every valley shall be filled,
    and every mountain and hill shall be made low,
and the crooked shall become straight,
    and the rough places shall become level ways,
and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.’”

He said therefore to the crowds that came out to be baptized by him, “You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Bear fruits in keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you, God is able from these stones to raise up children for Abraham. Even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees. Every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.”

And the crowds asked him, “What then shall we do?” And he answered them, “Whoever has two tunics is to share with him who has none, and whoever has food is to do likewise.” Tax collectors also came to be baptized and said to him, “Teacher, what shall we do?” And he said to them, “Collect no more than you are authorized to do.” Soldiers also asked him, “And we, what shall we do?” And he said to them, “Do not extort money from anyone by threats or by false accusation, and be content with your wages.”

As the people were in expectation, and all were questioning in their hearts concerning John, whether he might be the Christ, John answered them all, saying, “I baptize you with water, but he who is mightier than I is coming, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fork is in his hand, to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his barn, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.”

So with many other exhortations he preached good news to the people…Now when all the people were baptized, and when Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the heavens were opened, and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form, like a dove; and a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”

Covenant Baptism

“It follows, that the children of believers are not baptized that they may thereby then become the children of God, as if they had been before aliens to the church; but, on the contrary, they are received into the Church by this solemn sign, since they already belonged to the body of Christ by virtue of the promise.” (John Calvin, Institutes of the Christian Religion, 4:15:22. cf. 4:16:24)

Baptism is a sacrament of the new covenant, ordained by Jesus Christ (Matt 28:19Mark 16:16), not only for the solemn admission of the person baptized into the visible church (1 Cor 12:13Gal 3:27-28); but also, to be unto him a sign and seal of the covenant of grace (Rom 4:11Col 2:11-12), of his ingrafting into Christ (Gal 3:27Rom 6:5), of regeneration (John 3:5Tit 3:5), of remission of sins (Mark 1:4Acts 2:38; 22:16), and of his giving up unto God, through Jesus Christ, to walk in newness of life (Rom 6:3-4). Which sacrament is, by Christ’s own appointment, to be continued in his church until the end of the world (Matt 28:19-20). (WCF 28.1)

Confession of Faith: God Saves His Church

Congregation Recites – The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father,
Almighty Maker of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:
Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into death;
The third day He arose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty,
whence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy *catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.
Amen

*The word catholic means universal and refers to the whole Christian church throughout the world.

COMMUNION | God Nourishes His People

Scripture Reading and Prayer /  Lectura y Oración –

If you have been baptized into Christ, and trust Him as your only hope for Salvation, and are a member in good standing at any Christian church, then you are welcome to eat and drink with God’s family at Christ’s invitation.

Scripture Reading and Prayer —

The Lord Jesus Christ invites us to come eat and drink at his table of grace. Not to make an offering to Christ, but to receive grace from Christ. Not to hold a memorial for a dead man, but to celebrate the life of the God-man.

When your children ask, ‘What is the meaning of the gospel, baptism, and communion that the Lord our God has commanded you?’ you shall answer your children,

We were slaves of the Devil in the world and dead in our sins. And the Lord brought us out of the world with a mighty hand. And the Lord showed his power against the world, the flesh,and the devil in the weakness of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. And the Lord brought us out from there, that he might bring us into the church, and give us the new heavens and earth that he swore to give to our forefathers. And the Lord commanded us to observe all his teachings, and to fear the Lord our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as we are this day. Deuteronomy 6:20-22

Deuteronomio 6:20-22

Offerings and Prayer of Thanksgiving / Ofrendas e Acción de Gracias – 2 Cor. 9:7-8

Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you.
