Reverse the Curse

a poetic reflection on John 19:2-20:18 and Genesis 3:17-19
by JMT

The land was cursed because of Adam;
in pain he ate of it all the days of his life;
thorns and thistles it brought forth for him;
and he ate the plants of the field.
By the sweat of his face he ate bread,
till he returned to the ground,
for out of it he was taken;
for he was dust,
and to dust he returned.

The world was blessed because of Jesus;
in pain he ate of it all the days of his life;
thorns and thistles pierced his brow;
he ate the poison of the world;
By the blood, sweat, and tears of his face
he ate the bread of affliction,
till he returned to the ground,
for from it he was lifted up;
for he was delivered over to death,
and out of death he returned.
