CALL TO WORSHIP | God Gathers His People –

– O God of Our Salvation

We will bless the LORD at all times;
his praise shall continually be in our mouths.
My soul makes its boast in the LORD;
let the humble hear and be glad.
Oh, magnify the LORD with me,
and let us exalt his name together!
I sought the LORD, and he answered me
           and delivered me from all my fears.
Those who look to him are radiant,
           and their faces shall never be ashamed.
This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him
           and saved him out of all his troubles.
Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good!
Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!
Oh, fear the LORD, you his saints,
for those who fear him have no lack!
Come, O children, listen to me;
I will teach you the fear of the LORD.

Bendeciré al Señor en todo tiempo;
mis labios siempre lo alabarán.
Mi alma se gloría en el Señor;
lo oirán los humildes y se alegrarán.
Engrandezcan al Señor conmigo;
exaltemos a una su nombre.
Busqué al Señor, y él me respondió;
me libró de todos mis temores.
Radiantes están los que a él acuden;

Prueben y vean que el Señor es bueno;

CONFESSION OF SINS | God Forgives His People

Minister: Brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, let us draw near and humbly confess our sins to God. (Be seated)

(Sentados)

C: Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent, for the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon / Seguridad de Perdón –

M: According to the gospel of God’s grace, there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. Let us worship and praise him now.

CONSECRATION | God Equips His People

Scripture Reading and Prayer – (Deuteronomy 30:11-20 ESV)

“For this commandment that I command you today is not too hard for you, neither is it far off. It is not in heaven, that you should say, ‘Who will ascend to heaven for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ Neither is it beyond the sea, that you should say, ‘Who will go over the sea for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ But the word is very near you. It is in your mouth and in your heart, so that you can do it. See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil. If you obey the commandments of the LORD your God that I command you today, by loving the LORD your God, by walking in his ways, and by keeping his commandments and his statutes and his rules, then you shall live and multiply, and the LORD your God will bless you in the land that you are entering to take possession of it. But if your heart turns away, and you will not hear, but are drawn away to worship other gods and serve them, I declare to you today, that you shall surely perish. You shall not live long in the land that you are going over the Jordan to enter and possess. I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live, loving the LORD your God, obeying his voice and holding fast to him, for he is your life and length of days, that you may dwell in the land that the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.”

Collect: O Almighty God, who has built Your Church upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone: Grant us to be so joined together in unity of spirit by their doctrine, that we may be made an holy temple acceptable unto You; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. (Proper 8)

Sermon: Where Shall We Go? – Bo Cogbill (John 6:60-71)

60 Therefore, when many of His disciples heard this, they said, “This is a harsh saying. Who is able to hear it?” 61 But Jesus, perceiving in Himself that His disciples were grumbling concerning this said to them, “Does this offend you? 62 What if you should see the Son of Man ascending to where He was before? 63 The Spirit is the One who makes alive; the flesh is no help at all. The saying which I have spoken to y’all is Spirit and is life. 64 But, there are those from among y’all who do not trust.” (For Jesus knew from the beginning who were the ones who were not trusting and who it is that would give Him over.) 65 And He said, “For this reason I have said to y’all that no one is able to come to me unless it is given to him from the Father.” 66 After this, many from His disciples went back away and were no longer walking with Him. 67 Therefore, He said to the Twelve, “Do y’all also not desire to depart?” 68 Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom will we go? You hold the sayings of life eternal, 69 and we have trusted and we know that you are the Holy One of God.” 70 Jesus answered to them, “Did I not choose y’all, the Twelve, yet from y’all one is a devil?” 71 (He was speaking of Judas Iscariot, son of Simon; for this one was about to give Him over, one from the Twelve.)

Pastoral Prayer — Prayer from Psalm 16

Preserve us, O God, for in you we take refuge. We say to the LORD, “You are our Lord;
We have no good apart from you.”

As for the saints in the land, they are the excellent ones, in whom is all Your delight.
The sorrows of those who run after another god shall multiply: their drink offerings of blood we will not pour out or take their names on our lips. You are our chosen portion and our cup; you hold our lot. The lines have fallen for us in pleasant places; indeed, we have a beautiful inheritance. We bless the LORD who gives us counsel; in the night also our hearts instruct us. We have set the LORD always before us; because he is at my right hand, we shall not be shaken. Therefore our hearts are glad, and our whole being rejoices; our flesh also dwells secure. For you will not abandon our soul to Sheol, or let your holy one(s) see corruption. You make known to us the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

CONFESSION | God Receives His People

I believe in God the Father Almighty
Maker of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ,
His only Son, our Lord:
Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into death.
The third day He arose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven,
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty,
whence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy *catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.
Amen

Scripture Reading and Prayer — John 6:51-57

Minister:   I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh…Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever feeds on me, he also will live because of me.

Offerings and Thanksgiving / Ofrendas e Acción de Gracias — 1 John 3:16-18

By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.

COMMISSION | God Sends His People – 2 Cor 13:14

Benediction: May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
