“We believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord and Giver of Life;
who proceeds from the Father and the Son;
who with the Father and the Son together
is worshiped and glorified;
who spoke by the prophets.”

CALL TO WORSHIP | God Gathers His People

– All Creatures of our God and King

Salutation

Blow the trumpet in Zion;
    consecrate a fast;
call a solemn assembly;
    gather the people.
Consecrate the congregation;
    assemble the elders;
gather the children,
    even nursing infants.
Let the bridegroom leave his room,
    and the bride her chamber.
Between the vestibule and the altar
    let the priests, the ministers of the Lord, weep
and say, “Spare your people, O Lord,
    and make not your heritage a reproach. (Joel 2:15-17)

Toquen la trompeta en Sión,
    proclamen el ayuno,
convoquen a una asamblea solemne.
Congreguen al pueblo,
    purifiquen la asamblea;
    entre el pórtico y el altar;
y digan: «Compadécete, Señor, de tu pueblo.
    No entregues tu propiedad al oprobio.

Prayer / Oración

Create in Me (Psalm 51)

CONFESSION OF SINS | God Forgives His People

Minister: As we draw near to God, let us humbly confess our sins.

Ministro: Mientras nos acercamos a Dios, confesemos humildemente nuestros pecados.

Minister:  Where shall we go from your Spirit?
    Or where shall we flee from your presence?
If we ascend to heaven, you are there!
    If we make our bed in Sheol, you are there!
If we take the wings of the morning
    and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
even there your hand shall lead us,
    and your right hand shall hold us.
If we say, “Surely the darkness shall cover us,
    and the light about us be night,”
even the darkness is not dark to you;
    the night is bright as the day,
    for darkness is as light with you.
Search us, O God, and know our hearts!
    Try us and know our thoughts!
And see if there be any grievous way in us,
    and lead us in the way everlasting! (Psalm 139:7-12, 23-24)

Ministro:  ¿A dónde podría alejarnos de tu Espíritu?
    ¿A dónde podríamos huir de tu presencia?
Si subieramos al cielo, allí estás tú;
    ¡nos sostendría tu mano derecha!
Y si dijeramos: «Que nos oculten las tinieblas;
    que la luz se haga noche en torno nuestro»,
ni las tinieblas serían oscuras para ti,
    y aun la noche sería clara como el día.
    ¡Lo mismo son para ti las tinieblas que la luz!
Examínanos, oh Dios, y sondea nuestro corazón;
    ponnos a prueba y sondea nuestros pensamientos.
Fíjate si vamos por mal camino,
    y guíanos por el camino eterno. (Salmo 139:23-24)

Assurance of Pardon / Seguridad de Perdón

Minister: According to the covenant of grace, God will be merciful toward your iniquities,
and he will remember your sins no more Now, through Jesus Christ, let us offer up a sacrifice of praise to God.

CONSECRATION | God Equips His People

Scripture Reading and Prayer – Joel 2:18, 19, 21, 23, 27-32

Then the Lord became jealous for his land and had pity on his people. The LORD answered and said to his people, “Fear not; be glad and rejoice, for the Lord has done great things! Be glad, O children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God, for he has given the early rain for your vindication; he has poured down for you abundant rain, the early and the latter rain, as before. You shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the LORD your God and there is none else. And my people shall never again be put to shame.  And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions. Even on the male and female servants in those days I will pour out my Spirit. And I will show wonders in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and columns of smoke. The sun shall be turned to darkness, and the moon to blood, before the great and awesome day of the LORD comes. And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved. For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be those who escape, as the LORD has said, and among the survivors shall be those whom the LORD calls.”

Collect. Almighty God, on this day you opened the way of eternal life to every race and nation by the promised gift of your Holy Spirit: Shed abroad this gift throughout the world by the preaching of the Gospel, that it may reach to the ends of the earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen

Sermon: Pentecost: Spirit, Gospel, Mission (Acts 2:1-40)

Pastoral Prayer – O Father, we pray that according to the riches of your glory that you will grant us to be strengthened with power through your Spirit in our inner being, so that Christ may dwell in our hearts through faith—that we, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that we may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

CONFESSION OF FAITH | God Rewards His People

We confess that we were once foolish,
disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures,
passing our days in malice and envy,
hated by others and hating one another.
But we believe that
when the goodness and loving kindness
of God our Savior appeared,
he saved us,
not because of works done by us in righteousness,
but according to his own mercy,
by the washing of regeneration
and renewal of the Holy Spirit,
whom he poured out on us richly
through Jesus Christ our Savior,
so that being justified by his grace
we might become heirs
according to the hope of eternal life. (Titus 3:3-7)

COMMUNION | God Nourishes His People

Scripture Reading and Prayer — 1 Cor 12:12-14

For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit. For the body does not consist of one member but of many.

[ Interlude ]

Offerings and Prayer of Thanksgiving / Ofrendas e Acción de Gracias — Gal 6:7-8

Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.

COMMISSION | God Sends His People

Pray at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel. Eph 6:18-19

Benediction: May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
