Attention Men & Boys: Men’s Breakfast — Bull’s Pen Cafe this Saturday @ 8 am.

New Series: Who is the gospel for? In this mini-series we will see that the gospel is for everyone. Join us on mission as we follow the Spirit to preach the gospel to the ends of the earth. We’re on a mission from God. Here is our itinerary.

Dog Days of Summer: Recently, I spoke with a woman in charge of fund-raising for a non-profit institution. She told me that she dreads the summer because donations slow down and slump. I told her that the same thing happens in churches, but the ministry of the gospel must go on. With that in mind, we ask you to be mindful of your giving and joyfully keep your commitments to the Lord, whether you are at home or away on vacation. If away, you may give online here, or by snail mail — Christ Covenant Church PO Box 850582 Mesquite TX 75185-0582. Giving is an act of worship, and an act of love. As always we deeply appreciate your faithfulness to the Lord in this matter.

Prayer: Need help with prayer? I am currently reading Timothy Keller‘s book Prayer — and it is outstanding! A true must-read. Don’t be surprised if you hear more about it in the near future. On a related note, this short podcast on Calvin’s five rules for praying rightly is really encouraging.

Pentecost: “God gave us the miracle of congregation with the same sign he gave us the miracle of Jesus, by the descent of the dove. The Holy Spirit descended into the womb of Mary in the Galilean village of Nazareth. Thirty or so years later the same Holy Spirit descended into the collective womb of men and women, which included Mary, who had been followers of Jesus. The first conception gave us Jesus, the second conception gave us Church. It was a miracle that didn’t look like a miracle–a miracle using the powerless, the vulnerable, the unimportant.” (Eugene Peterson, The Pastor, p 127)

FYI: One can always tell who has not (yet?) read the enewz because they always ask about times and dates and other things written in the enewz. 🙂
