Second Sunday After Christmas

+ Convocation: God Gathers his Church

Hymn – All Creatures of our God and King

Minister: The hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth. John 4:23-24

+ Confession: God Forgives his Church

Minister: Almighty and most merciful Father; We have erred, and strayed from your ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have offended against thy holy laws. We have left undone those things which we ought to have done; And we have done those things which we ought not to have done; And there is no health in us. But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable offenders. Spare those, O God, who confess their faults. Restore those who are penitent; According to thy promises declared unto mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord. And grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake; That we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, To the glory of your holy Name. Amen.

Hemos faltado a tus santas leyes.

Minister: May the Almighty and Merciful God grant you Pardon and Remission of all your sins, true repentance, change of life, and the grace and consolation of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Musician: O Lord, open our lips that our mouth declare your praise!

Hymn –

+ Consecration: God Equips his Church

OT Scripture Reading: Isaiah 55:1-13

Collect. Almighty God, who has poured upon us the new light of your incarnate Word; Grant that the same light enkindled in our hearts may shine forth in our lives; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

NT Scripture Reading: John 4:1-28

Homily: Gas Pump, Pure Grace, Guilty Pastor

Pastoral Prayer — Collect. O triune God, by whom the meek are guided in judgment, and light rises up in darkness for the godly; Grant us, in all our doubts and uncertainties, the grace to ask what you would have us to do, that the Spirit of Wisdom may save us from all false choices, and that in your light we may see light, and in your straight path may not stumble; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Hymn –

+ Confession: God Sustains his Church

We believe God loved the world like this:
he gave his only Son,
that whoever believes in him
should not perish but have eternal life.
For God did not send his Son into the world
to condemn the world,
but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Whoever believes in him is not condemned,
but whoever does not believe is condemned already,
because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
John 3:16-17

+ Communion: God Nourishes his Church

By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. 1 John 3:16

Minister: O merciful Lord, we do not presume to come to your Table, trusting in our own righteousness, but in your manifold and great mercies. We are not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under your Table. But you are the same Lord, whose special quality is always to have mercy: Grant us therefore, gracious Lord, so to eat the flesh of your dear Son Jesus Christ, and to drink his blood, that our sinful bodies may be made clean by his Body, and our souls washed through his most precious Blood, and that we may evermore dwell in him, and he in us. Amen. (Prayer of Humble Access)

[ Musical Interlude ]

Offerings and Tithes

But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth. 1 John 3:17-18

Hymn –

+ Commission: God Sends his Church

Benediction — May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face to shine upon us, that his way may be known on earth, his saving power among all nations. Ps 67:1-2

Prayers for the Sick and Absent

Minister: O Father God, whose fatherly care reaches to the uttermost parts of the earth; We humbly ask you to graciously behold and bless those whom we love, now absent from us. Defend and protect them from all dangers of soul and body; and grant that both they and we, drawing nearer to you, may be bound together by your love in the communion of your Holy Spirit, and in the fellowship of your saints; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O merciful God, Lord and giver of life and health; Bless, we pray, your servants, our children, and others among us who are sick in body or soul, and grant them healing; and Bless we pray all those who tend to them and administer your healing gifts; that they be restored to health of body and of mind; by the power of your Holy Spirit, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Almighty God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, who has given us grace at this time to make our prayers and requests known to you with one accord; and who promises that when two or three are gathered together in your Name you will grant their requests; Fulfil now, O Lord, the desires and petitions of your servants’ hearts, in ways that may be most expedient and edifying for them; and grant us in this world knowledge of the power of the truth of your gospel, and in the world to come everlasting life. Amen
