THE ORDER FOR MORNING PRAYER AND ADVENT SEASON
First Sunday in Advent 2014
– Come Thou Long Expected Jesus
CALL TO WORSHIP | God Gathers His Church
The true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth. (John 4:23-24)
(Juan 4:23-24)
CONFESSION OF SINS | God Forgives His Church
Minister: Be seated, and let us humbly confess our sins unto Almighty God in silent prayers.
Ministro: Sentados, confesemos humildemente nuestros pecados a Dios Todopoderoso en silencio.
Minister: This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. – 1 John 1:5-10
– 1 Juan 1:5-10
Minister: Stand up, lift your head and your heart, trusting that the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin. Our King and Savior draws near: Come, let us worship and adore him.

CONSECRATION | God Equips His Church
Scripture Reading and Prayer — Revelation 12:1-5
And a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. She was pregnant and was crying out in birth pains and the agony of giving birth. And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great red dragon, with seven heads and ten horns, and on his heads seven diadems. His tail swept down a third of the stars of heaven and cast them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she bore her child he might devour it. She gave birth to a male child, one who is to shepherd all the nations with a rod of iron, but her child was caught up to God and to his throne.
Almighty God, give us grace that we may cast away the works of darkness, and put upon us the armor of light, now in the time of this mortal life, in which your Son Jesus Christ came to visit us in great humility; that in the last day, when he shall come again in his glorious majesty to judge both the quick and the dead, we may rise to the life immortal, through him who lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, now and ever. Amen. (BCP 1928, p 90)
Advent: War Cries for the Savior
Sermon – Mary’s Song (Luke 1:46-56)
And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord,
and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant.
For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed;
for he who is mighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his name.
And his mercy is for those who fear him
from generation to generation.
He has shown strength with his arm;
he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts;
he has brought down the mighty from their thrones
and exalted those of humble estate;
he has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.
He has helped his servant Israel,
in remembrance of his mercy,
as he spoke to our fathers,
to Abraham and to his offspring forever.”
Pastoral Prayer: O God, the King eternal, who divides the day from the darkness, and turns the shadow of death into the morning; Drive far off from us all wrong desires, incline our hearts to keep your law, and guide our feet into the way of peace; that having done your will with cheerfulness while it was day, we may, when the night comes, rejoice to give you thanks; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (BCP 1928, p 594)

CONFESSION OF FAITH | God Sustains His Church
Congregation Recites the Apostles’ Creed –
I believe in God the Father,
Almighty Maker of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:
Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into death [realm of departed souls];
The third day He arose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty,
whence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy *catholic [universal] church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.

COMMUNION | God Nourishes His Church
Scripture Reading and Prayer / Lectura y Oración –
And people will come from east and west, and from north and south, and recline at table in the kingdom of God. And behold, some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last.” (Luke 13:29-30)
Let us pray like this:
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For yours is the kingdom
and the power and the glory forever.
Padre nuestro que estás en el cielo,
santificado sea tu nombre,
venga tu reino,
hágase tu voluntad
en la tierra como en el cielo.
Danos hoy nuestro pan cotidiano.
[ Interlude – Instrumental ]
Offerings and Thanksgiving / Ofrendas e Acción de Gracias –
And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. (Acts 2:44-45)
